This workshop was jointly organizd after the International workshops "The sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa - Aspects and legal history" held in April 2013 in Quang Ngai and "Hoang Sa - Truong Sa: historical truth" in June 2014 in Danang. This is one of the most practical workshops, analyzed many issues "hottest" following the ruling of the International Court of Arbitration in July 2016.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Dang Phuoc, Pham Van Dong University Rector: Workshop focused on issue of "Legal Regulation of islands and rocks in the international law and practice in the South China Sea", therefore it created conditions for domestic and foreign scholars having further exchanges on this theme.
Moreover, the International Court of Arbitration proceedings between the Philippines and the South China Sea China has a historical verdict, which was first an international judicial institution ruled specify the factors and conditions that a geographical structure must meet to be recognized as the island in order to have the right to have exclusive economic zone and continental shelf; the grounds to consider a stone structure or shoals at times floating sink helps international and domestic scholars review, recognize the legal status of the entity in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa .
The workshop consists of three main sessions: Session 1. The Regulation of the islands and rocky legal in international law; Session 2. The dispute sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa; and Session 3.The judgment of the International Court of Arbitration on the lawsuit between the Philippines and China.
The workshop was attended by over 100 international and Vietnamese researchers and scholars with deep expertise in international law and particularly concerned about the situation of the South China Sea, such as Prof. Carl Thayer, Prof. Erik Franckx, Prof. Koichi Sato, Dr. Timo Kivimäki, Dr. Amy Searight, Ambassador Nguyen Quy Binh, Dr. Tran Cong Truc ...
At the workshop nearly 30 papers were presented, speeches, ideas were discussed by scholars, researchers on three main theme workshop.
Moreover, on the 18th August 2016, the domestic and foreign scholars visited Cam Ranh International Port.
